The First
Astronomy Night Huge Success!
The
Hinsdale Public Library Foundation’s first Astronomy
Night on Friday, December 12 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.,
was a huge success! Over 200 people came out on the freezing
cold, but clear night to gaze up at the skies. Telescopes,
some on loan from Foundation members and local residents,
were set up on the Library’s south lawn with their
sights aimed towards the heavens. Many thanks to the Sidewalk
Astronomy Club of Downers Grove for also supplying telescopes
and providing assistance to those who came out to look
at the stars. During the evening, stargazers got to see
Pleiades, Saturn, Mars, and the Great Orion Nebula.
The Memorial Building Lobby remained open as a warming
center. Hot chocolate and cookies were on hand to help
warm up the eager stargazers, and a craft activity table
was set up where children could draw and color what they
saw through the telescopes.
